Hell’s Gate
With the busy lives that we all live now, I got treated in the long weekend to a relaxing holiday in Rotorua. One of my favourite places that we went to was Hell’s Gate.
As I drove into Hells Gate I could see the large clouds of sulphuric steam from the more than 50 acres of geothermal land. When you enter the premises you are greeted with a friendly ‘Kia Ora’ and asked to go up the ramp to the spas and mud bath. We were briefed about the safety instructions and then asked to change into our swimsuits and go into the spa. After about 10 minutes in the spa, you go into the private mud bath. It is a mixture of the warm sulphur spring water with the purest grey mud. The mud almost felt like silk, it was heaven! You must keep all of your body, up to your neck, under the mud for the full 20 minutes to get all of the benefits. It is so relaxing and soothing.
As the mud opens up your pores so much it is necessary to close them rapidly. I squealed as I had to jump into a freezing cold shower to wash all of the dirt of. The main reason for it being cold is that it instantly brings all the blood back to your head after being in a warm mud bath and it prevents you from fainting. After freezing for a couple of minutes you get to jump back into the spa bath and relax for as long as you want.
My skin had been exfoliated, detoxified and left feeling baby smooth again. Any imperfections on your skin disappear and your skin is left glowing. If are ever in Rotorua make sure that you check out Hell’s Gate. You won’t be disappointed.
